where I unbecome

It happened in the barest ways
a sunrise I didn’t mean to wake for,
a softness I didn’t expect to grow into,
a laugh that sounded like someone
I hadn’t met yet.

Somewhere between yesterday’s tangle
and tomorrow’s promise,
I misplaced the version of myself
who swore nothing would change.

Instead, I found a pulse
I thought I’d buried.

Call it fate or clumsy grace
but when the light hit me just right,

I realized what I’d stumbled into

An accidental rebirth.

A beginning I never planned,
but one I’m learning
to live.
